Travel FAQ for Our Wedding Guests
Getting to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico – Fall 2025
We’re so excited to welcome you to San Miguel de Allende to celebrate our wedding. We know international travel can raise questions—especially in uncertain times—so we’ve put together this simple guide to clear up common concerns and help you feel confident, safe, and informed.
---
Q: Is it safe to travel to San Miguel de Allende right now?
A: Yes. San Miguel is widely known as one of the safest and most welcoming cities in Mexico. It’s home to a large, established American and Canadian expat community, and thousands of international visitors come every month without issue. Like any city, it’s wise to take basic travel precautions, but San Miguel is not a high-crime or high-risk area.
---
Q: I’ve heard rumors about war, cartels, or border conflicts. Should I be worried?
A: No. There is no war between the U.S. and Mexico, and current political tensions have not impacted tourism. San Miguel is not a cartel hotspot, and there is no military activity or civil unrest here. These concerns are based on isolated regional news stories—not day-to-day reality in central Mexico.
---
Q: What about immigration or customs? Is it hard to enter Mexico right now?
A: Not at all. If you’re a U.S. citizen, you don’t need a visa—just a valid passport. You’ll receive a tourist permit (called an FMM) upon arrival that’s good for up to 180 days. Airports are operating normally, and border crossings for flights are smooth and efficient.
---
Q: Are there new tariffs or fees for bringing goods or gifts into Mexico?
A: No. There are no new tariffs that affect air travelers. You can bring personal items and luggage as usual. Standard customs limits apply, just like any international trip.
---
Q: What’s the best way to get to San Miguel?
A: Most guests fly into either León (BJX) or Querétaro (QRO)—both airports are about 90 minutes from San Miguel. Private shuttles, taxis, or shared transport are readily available. We’re happy to help coordinate rides or provide a list of trusted providers.
---
Q: Who can I contact with questions or travel help?
A: You can always reach out to us directly—or contact our friends at Mexico Newcomers. They’re relocation and travel specialists based right in San Miguel, and they’re happy to answer questions about travel safety, logistics, or local support. You can visit their site at MexicoNewcomers.com
